There is SO MUCH good information in these pages. I’m having a hard time keeping up – and I’ve studied it before!! I find myself contemplating our “continuum” and feeling proud of what I’ve been able to absorb and incorporate, my progress so far, so to speak. And now, new insights emerge from these same pages as I’ve been able to practice, reflect and find new strengths and strategies to carry on as our journey develops, ever-changing. I encourage you all to take the time to study this material, apply what’s helpful, examine what’s new and different. For me, it has been invaluable and has …
I became aware of strengths and resources I didn’t know I had
This course - with its unique vision and innovative ideas, readings, videos and beautiful artwork - gave me the tools to support us both during a very difficult time. Through Krista’s compassionate facilitation, I became aware of strengths and resources I didn’t know I had - nor that my son had, even amidst what he was going through. I learned we are not alone. I have taken this course several times - and am immensely thankful for the community of support I found here. - Irene, a former RN on a psychiatric ward whose son is a terrific young man …

A Few Short Testimonials
Below are a few short testimonials from different people who have taken the class who chose to remain anonymous: I am so grateful I took the Recovering Our Families online course. For the first time since my son’s diagnosis, I felt a sense of hopefulness and community. I learned that love heals and is greater than fear. I learned how to connect with my son, which meant not trying to fix, diagnose or judge him, but simply loving and accepting him for who he was in the moment. I learned to move away from the construct that something was “wrong” with him and to appreciate that these ‘extreme …
Thank You For Giving Our Family A New Path
My goodness, I do not know where to begin. I wish I could have had access to this course many years ago when my son had his first episode. Our family has struggled for almost 30 years and finally settled into a “stuck” attitude about hope for the future. First of all, the first part of this course hit me square in the head! Through the self-examination and the wonderful extra reading resources, I became aware of the fact that I needed a NEW PERSPECTIVE in dealing with our son. The most important was to pull my hand back and not allow him to hand me his illness. It was as if we both had …

A Story of Successful (So Far!) Application of Coursework
Our son was recently involuntarily committed (by the court) to the hospital; a stay which lasted 2 1/2 weeks. He had not been taking his meds consistently (a requirement of his treatment/probation), had become increasingly withdrawn and uncommunicative and was losing weight. He stopped talking to the doctors when it was evident they were not listening. This class provided me with the confidence to trust my judgment and make my voice be heard. But that's not even right. It gave me the confidence to believe in my son's judgment and help his voice be heard. I was able to draw on the vocabulary …

Absolutely Fantastic
"Krista -- Thank you for an absolutely fantastic course. The reading material was outstanding -- I printed out all the articles, and a lot of the reference material as well. Your voice, both in the video and in your written asynchronous discussion was wonderful. The personal stories of recovery were compelling and the substantive online discussion amongst participants fostered learning and reinforced hope. The course was interesting to me professionally as well as personally, because I work in the field of special education and have long been frustrated with the disability labeling because …
